Meet the "Master of Flavor" behind the old-fashioned taste of Shamrock Beverages

Imagine a profession so unique and specialized that you know with absolute certainty you're the only one in the entire state of Minnesota that performs such responsibilities. How would you feel? "It's rewarding — and I must say, a lot of fun!" says Rick Dyer of the Shamrock Group, who is responsible for manufacturing all 17 of the Shamrock-brand sodas and mixers. Rick says, with confident pride, that these flavors easily rival the national brands. So what makes Shamrock's line beverages so flavorful? Rick's response: As the name denotes, "We make our syrups the old fashioned way." This said from the soft-spoken 60- year-old gentleman whose family has been in the business of producing flavors in Minnesota for over 90 years. After the Dyers sold their business, Rick joined the Shamrock Group to be the company's "Master of Flavor".
"It all goes back to the flavors I remember from the 1960s," Rick says. Back then, he explains, "there were no corners cut on flavoring ingredients. You had full flavor and color." "That's what we do today with our Shamrock Old-Fashioned Beverages," he continues. "When you close your eyes and take in the aroma, you know that the product is an orange, a root beer, a strawberry or a grape. We're never, ever afraid to put our products against any other brand." "Heck, I tell the boys (Shamrock Group Owners David and Steven Kelly) we should be charging a premium for our beverages!" Rick chuckles.
